Lives and Works in Berlin: Head Shop/Lost Horizon at Exile

During a recent visit to Exile Gallery, I spoke with guest curator Billy Miller about his concurrent shows Head Shop/Lost Horizon, which were a part of Exile’s annual Summer Camp Series.  We chatted around a courtyard table, as a giant tarp made of discarded umbrellas loomed over us, engulfing the whole hof in cheap, translucent color and swaths of frayed paisley. Head Shop curated by Billy Miller featuring Noah Lyon and others at Exile – Berlin, opening July 17

Announcements, shows — Noah Lyon on June 16, 2010 at 9:32 am

This July and August Exile presents its second annual Summer Camp curated by New York based Artist, Writer, Editor and Independent Publisher Billy Miller. For this year’s SummerCamp Miller curated two simultaneous exhibitions entitled Head Shop and Lost Horizon:

Head Shop is both a nod to legendary ‘60s bohemian boutiques like Granny Takes A Trip, and an evocation of the idea of the mind as a storehouse of images and potentialities.

Artists: Dan Acton, Assume Vivid Astro Focus, Brian Belott, Nina Bovasso, Matt Burruso, Larry Carlson, Ryan Cummings, TM Davy, Michael Economy, Krista Figacz, Fritz Haeg, Christian Holstad, Brian Kenny, Paul Kopkau, Jason Peters, Janie Geiser, Steve LaFreniere, Noah Lyon, Michael Magnan, Rachel Mason, Glynnis McDaris, Ashleigh Nankivell, Darinka Novitovic, Mary Nicholson, Genesis P. Orridge, Kevin Regan, Alex Rose, Desi Santiago, Barbara Sullivan, The Agitators, Jan Wandrag, David West, Justin Yockel

Lost Horizon takes its title from the book and film of the same name, and suggests aspects of American Western mythology and “lost” possibilities – ecological, cultural, personal and otherwise.

Artists: D-L Alvarez, Rachel Beach, Michael Bilsborough, Colby Bird, Matthew Burcaw, Kathe Burkhart, Luke Butler, Walt Cassidy, Brendan Carroll, Wayne Coe, Reuben Cox, Pia Dehne, Peter Eide, Carl Ferrero, Jonah Freeman, Janine Gordon, Jonah Groeneboer, Tina Hejtmanek, Scott Hug, Stephen Irwin, Lisa Kirk, Lewis Klahr, Martin Kohout, Kristian Kozul, Marcus Gruendel, Scott Hug, Pat Keesey, Paul Lee, Peter Maloney, Glynnis McDaris, Dean Sameshima, Paul Sepuya, Florent Tillon, Ken Warneke
