FAIR EXHIBITIONS

Artists’ Photography Books Printed Matter presents an historical overview of artists’ use of photography in their books, from the sixties to today. These are not your typical photo books: from Ed Ruscha’s deadpan cataloguing of the western urban landscape, to Sol LeWitt’s use of photography in his investigation of patterns, systems and sequences, these publications employ photography as a strategic component in the aggregate of the book as art work.

Feminine ZINE’S MATE (Japan) presents “Feminine,” an exhibition of zines and artists’ books published by Japanese women. The practice of self-publishing zines has flourished among women throughout Japan in recent years, not only among artists but also fashion designers, writers, students, and others, creating the rich and diverse collection of publications that form the basis for this exhibition.

Loose Leaf: Publications as Assemblage Semina, the art and literary journal published by artist Wallace Berman from 1955–1964, will be proudly featured alongside a number of other assembled magazines from the 1960–70s as part of “Loose Leaf.” This special exhibition will examine an era during which the composition of printed matter was performed, transmitted, and scrambled, generating new possibilities for published artworks. “Loose Leaf” is organized by David Senior, Museum of Modern Art Library.

We Are The Writing On The Wall A special exhibition of one hundred vintage British Punk fanzines, also compiled and published in one volume by PPP Editions as 100 Fanzines/10 Years of British Punk: 1976-1985, featuring writings by Vic Brand and Toby Mott, and designed by Garrick Gott.

NEW EDITIONS
New artwork editions to benefit the NY Art Book Fair Printed Matter presents new limited-edition artworks by Marc Hundley, Colter Jacobson, Harmony Korine and Nick Relph. Purchase of these editions support the Fair, helping to ensure the event remains free.
Adventures in Living This new publication, edited by David Senior, brings together contemporary language-based artworks, poetry, and image-text dialogues, in homage to the assembling practices first developed by mid-twentieth century artists’ periodicals including Semina. Contributors include Alejandro Cesarco, Eve Fowler, Dora Garcia, William E. Jones, MPA, Carl Pope, Scott Reeder, Paul Sepuya-Mpagi, and others. Artist and designer Aaron Flint Jamison coordinated production at YU, Portland, OR. Sales of Adventures in Living will support free admission to the Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference.
